Help people see and understand data
At Tableau, I championed a shift from traditional, complex desktop dashboards to a bite-sized and actionable UX, reimagining how users interact with data. To scale Tableau’s usage beyond data experts, the design language was tailored to a broader audience, simplifying complex insights and making them intuitive and actionable.
One key initiative of this 'simple UX' approach was embedding Tableau into Slack, following its acquisition by Salesforce in 2021. This integration allowed users to share, monitor, and interact with critical data seamlessly within their everyday workflows, eliminating the need to switch contexts. Slack evolved from being a communication platform to a new canvas for data visualization.
Envision the future data experience
In early 2024 at Tableau, I had the unique opportunity to design immersive data experiences for Apple’s Vision Pro. This project pushed UX boundaries by moving beyond traditional keyboard and mouse inputs, leveraging spatial computing to place data in a 3D context. Users can explore and interact with data visualizations naturally within their physical environment, making analytics more intuitive and engaging. We incorporated visual analytics best practices, such as adapting visual representations to different data combinations and enabling interactive exploration through filters, aggregation changes, and visualization switches. This project, led collaboratively by the research and design teams, envisions the future of data interaction in the era of spatial computing.
